B'more for Healthy Babies trains facilitators to conduct group classes using the Baby Basics curriculum. At any given time. How can clinics benefit from Baby Basics? Baby Basics provides clinics and community-based programs with simple tools and strategies for helping each client learn how to care for herself and her baby.

The teaching strategies for using Baby Basics serve as a quality improvement tool for clinics that helps organize care for clients. An initial evaluation of the program found that patients participating in Baby Basics reported increased adherence to prenatal visits and greater satisfaction with their medical care compared with patients who did not participate in the program.

Pregnancy is the health literacy teachable moment. A chance for moms to get support, information and self-actualization through the power of friendship and community. Facilitated not led by trained educators, Moms Clubs nurture empowerment through camaraderie, a key component to healthy pregnancies.

We facilitate, not lead, as groups of practitioners work together to learn -- how to use our materials, curriculum and experiential based philosophy of education. We provide on-going help as you or your community plan, implement and promote Moms Clubs. We designed Baby Basics to bolster pregnancy programs already in existence and to help all types of caregivers provide consistent, understandable information to pregnant moms in need.

Just as no two moms are alike, we work with each site individually to customize a Baby Basics Program that meets its unique population and setting needs. Anyone who helps pregnant women can benefit from our strategies for helping moms access information and care, and for learning skills women need to become advocates for their own health and that of their families.
